EADS Barfield becomes accredited distributer and warranty repair station for Elta emergency locator products

Miami, Florida, December  05, 2003

EADS Barfield, a subsidiary EADS North America and part of the EADS Sogerma Services network, has been selected as an accredited warranty repair station and distributor for emergency locator transmitters (ELTs) for ELTA, a subsidiary of the French group Areva.

ELTA emergency locator transmitters are light, compact, and reliable, and can easily be installed on any type of commercial, private or military aircraft -- from regional aircraft to Airbus and Boeing airliners, to military fighter aircraft and helicopters. They are designed for the retrofit market as well as for installation on new aircraft. ELTA’s ELT’s already have been chosen by more than 100 airlines worldwide.

“We are pleased to receive the accreditation as a warranty repair station and distributor for ELTA products,” said George Xavier Philibert, EADS Barfield’s President and CEO. “This reinforces our commitment to ELTA, while expanding our presence in the North and Central American markets. It also reinforces our role as a support company of choice for aircraft related companies around the world.”

To meet the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization and for military peacetime needs, ELTA has developed a complete range of tri-band ELTs (operating at 121 MHz, 243 MHz and 406 MHz), as well as accessories approved for the COSPAS-SARSAT location and search & rescue system. COSPAS-SARSAT allows accurate location and identification of aircraft in distress around the world. COSPAS-SARSAT capability is required by European aviation regulations, and also is mandatory in most of Asia. In the near future, the North American aircraft market will require this equipment.
