EADS Secure Networks North America has been chosen as the subcontractor for a Project 25 (P25) digital, trunked radio system to GE Transportation LLC in support of California’s Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District’s new Advanced Communications and Information System (ACIS).
The District’s new ACIS will greatly enhance communications, and support numerous improvements for the security, safety and operational reliability of the mass transit system. Implementation of the $15.5 million project is scheduled to last two years.
“We are pleased to work with GE Transportation in providing the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District a new, digital radio communications platform to help ensure the safety and well-being of its mass transit customers,” said Steve Shanck, Executive Vice President-General Manager, EADS Secure Networks North America.
Among these new and upgraded services is the implementation of EADS’ CORP25, a turnkey P25 radio system leveraging the power of Internet Protocol and the P25 standard to provide highly dependable, fully interoperable communications. As an open-standards digital trunked solution, CORP25 allows P25 and non-P25 radios to operate together on one core architecture, providing operators full autonomy and control over the radio network. It also removes traditional proprietary boundaries, freeing operations like the District to choose from different vendors and technologies, further reducing their overall cost of ownership.
Most recently, EADS Secure Networks North America provided a digital radio communications system for the Beijing 2008 Summer Games, managing an unprecedented 1.6 million group calls in a single day. Currently, EADS Secure Networks North America, a division of PlantCML®, is demonstrating the CORP25 solution to mission-critical operations throughout the U.S., revealing the unprecedented control, flexibility, interoperability and choice it delivers to the public safety environment.
The District is a public agency based in San Francisco that serves the transportation needs of nearly 49 million customers annually through its three operating divisions: Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Transit and Golden Gate Ferry.
