EADS North America appoints retired Air Force General Bruce Carlson to Board of Directors

EADS North America today announced the appointment of retired General Bruce Carlson to its Board of Directors. Carlson joins the board following a distinguished career of service to the U.S. Air Force spanning almost four decades. He retired as Commander, Air Force Materiel Command, in January.

“General Carlson’s senior leadership experience and extensive acquisition expertise make him a tremendous addition to our Board of Directors,” said Ralph D. Crosby, Jr., EADS North America chairman and chief executive officer. “His customer perspectives will help ensure we continue to offer and deliver the most capable, mission-oriented solutions for the U.S. military.”

As the leader of Air Force Materiel Command, Gen. Carlson managed 74,000 people and oversaw $59 billion in annual development, testing, acquisition and sustainment of Air Force weapon systems.

General Carlson was commissioned an officer in 1971. He has more than 3,300 flying hours in ten different aircraft, including combat missions as a forward air controller in the OV-10 Bronco. His flying assignments also included commanding the 49th Fighter Wing at Holloman Air Force Base, N.M., the Air Force's first stealth fighter wing.

His staff assignments have included positions at Tactical Air Command, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, and the offices of the Secretary of the Air Force and Secretary of Defense. He also served as the Director of Force Structure, Resources and Assessment on the Joint Staff. Prior to assuming his position at AFMC, Gen. Carlson served as the Commander, 8th Air Force, and Joint Functional Component Commander for Space and Global Strike, U.S. Strategic Command.

His decorations include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Distinguished Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, and the Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters.
