Defense systems, security and public safety

EADS North America

EADS North America is the partner to Northrop Grumman on the U.S. Air Force’s new KC-45A tanker, with responsibility for assembling airframes and providing completed flight-qualified aircraft and refueling subsystems.

In addition, EADS North America is prime contractor for the UH-72A rotary-wing aircraft, which is being fielded as the U.S. Army’s new Light Utility Helicopter. Other members of the UH-72A industry team include its American Eurocopter business unit, for production of the twin-engine helicopter.

EADS North America also provided management support for the re-engining and upgrading of the U.S. Coast Guard’s HH-65 Dolphin helicopter fleet. This major program was performed by American Eurocopter and the Coast Guard. The modernized helicopters are better fulfilling the Coast Guard's traditional maritime surveillance and search-and-rescue duties, while meeting its new responsibilities for national defense and homeland security.

American Eurocopter

American Eurocopter is an EADS North America business unit with facilities in Texas and Mississippi. It supports the Department of Homeland Security with technical assistance and spares supplies necessary to maintain a fleet of approximately 140 helicopters that include Eurocopter AS350BAs, AS350B2s, AS350B3s and HH65s. These rotary-wing aircraft are flown by such operators as the U.S. Coast Guard, the Department of Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection Air Branch, and the FBI.

Additionally, American Eurocopter is providing EC120B helicopters for the Customs and Border Protection Air Branch that are deployed along the southwest and northern borders of the United States. The primary mission of the EC120B is in the “Light Sign Cutter” role, which involves the low level tracking of illegal immigration and the illegal flow of contraband through the nation’s borders.

American Eurocopter was a key participant in the program to re-engine and upgrade the U.S. Coast Guard’s HH-65 Dolphin helicopter fleet under the Integrated Deepwater System program. The company provided re-engining kits used in the conversion of all 96 HH-65s in the Coast Guard fleet to the improved HH-65C version. American Eurocopter also set up a second re-engining line at its Columbus, Mississippi facility to provide supplemental capacity for the HH-65’s upgrade – processing a total of 12 Dolphins in addition to those handled at by the Coast Guard at its Aircraft Repair and Supply Center in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

Airbus Military North America, an EADS North America Company

The rugged and reliable family of Airbus Military North America, an EADS North America Company, multi-role transports is well suited for a range of U.S. defense and homeland security missions.

Airbus Military North America, an EADS North America Company’s HC-144A Ocean Sentry has been chosen as the maritime patrol aircraft for the U.S. Coast Guard's Deepwater Program. The HC-144A’s surveillance capabilities permit detection and identification of offshore threats. The information acquired can also be shared with other assets of the C4ISR network.

EADS North America Integrated Shelter Systems

EADS North America Integrated Shelter Systems offers operationally-proven solutions in mobile hospital, support and protection for U.S. military and homeland security requirements.

Headquartered at Russellville, Arkansas, it currently is preparing the EADS TransHospital® mobile hospital system for field tests by the U.S. Army for its Future Medical Shelter System (FMSS) requirement, and is ready to respond to other mission needs for military, disaster recovery and emergency response missions. TransHospital is composed of rugged hardwall shelters and inflatable softwall units, which are assembled together to create operational systems that meet specific mission applications.

Fairchild Controls

Fairchild Controls Corporation designs and manufactures air turbine drives and environmental controls for a range of military applications. Fairchild Control’s cooling systems include externally mounted aircraft pods that carry targeting, navigation, reconnaissance, and electronic countermeasure systems for U.S. and foreign military services. Its TP 25 air turbine drives have equipped the C-130 Hercules throughout the aircraft’s more than 50 years of operational service.

PlantCML

PlantCML provides call management and radio dispatch products for emergency call centers, along with emergency notification services, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) applications and mapping services. It has the largest installed base of public safety answering points in the U.S.    

Acquired by EADS North America in April 2008, PlantCML complements EADS’ global capabilities in delivering P25-based public safety and homeland security radio systems. EADS is the world’s second largest systems provider for public safety and mission critical interoperable communications solutions with more than 180 public networks in over 65 countries.

PlantCML’s capabilities include radio dispatch, computer telephony integrated workstations, computer aided dispatch, records management, mobile data, digital logging recording, Voice over Internet Protocol, and next-generation 911 (NG911) emergency messaging solutions.
