The U.S. Navy has ordered three additional Shaft Engine Test Instrumentation (SETI) systems from EADS North America Defense Test and Services for support of U.S. Navy and Marine Corps helicopter turboshaft engines. The new contract is valued at $3.4 million and follows the Navy’s 2002 purchase of a SETI system and Test Program Sets that are installed at Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, Maryland.
SETI replaces older-generation manual test systems, providing a more cost-effective and flexible testing solution with automated data capture, reporting and transfer. The system operates with engine adapter assemblies (EAA) and test program sets (TPS) that allow SETI to function with the various engine types in the U.S. Navy’s helicopter inventory. EADS North America Defense Test and Services also produces the EAA and TPS components for the SETI system.
SETI is derived from EADS North America Defense Test and Services’ JETI (Jet Engine Test Instrumentation) system, which is in service on U.S. Navy aircraft carriers to support such combat aircraft as the F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet. Both SETI and JETI have significant commonality, enabling the Navy to fully benefit from similar test systems in both land-based and sea-based applications.
“This follow-on business for SETI reconfirms the value provided by our family of computer-based test systems for front-line helicopters and fighters,” said Gordon Taylor, the President and CEO of EADS North America Defense Test and Services.
