EADS North America has tapped Larry Roberts to direct business development initiatives for federal law enforcement aircraft. He will lead initiatives to expand EADS North America’s business efforts in support of the FBI, DEA, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and a variety of other U.S. federal law enforcement agencies.
“As a career law enforcement officer, investigator and aviator, Larry is uniquely qualified to understand federal law enforcement agencies’ aviation requirements,” said David Oliver, EADS North America chief operations officer.
Based at the American Eurocopter facility in Grand Prairie, Texas, Roberts will serve as the primary customer contact for all federal law enforcement agency inquiries and business development activities. He also will continue in his current role as the vice president of sales, marketing and customer support, overseeing American Eurocopter’s activities in the commercial market.
Roberts began his law enforcement career in 1983 in Gainesville, Fla. He rose through the ranks from patrolman and special operations, to hold supervisory roles both in the criminal investigations and patrol divisions. Emanating from his role as departmental pilot, Roberts also served as a founding member of the department’s helicopter unit which has since merged into the combined Gainesville/Alachua County Joint Aviation Unit.
In 1996 Roberts was appointed captain of the criminal investigations division at the Citrus County, Fla., Sheriff’s Department where he continued to serve as a pilot and also supervised detectives in the areas of investigations, detection, apprehension and prosecution.
In 1997 Roberts joined American Eurocopter, serving in a variety of positions of increased responsibility, leading to his current position as vice president. Roberts has supported the aviation needs and requirements of dozens of local, state and federal law enforcement agencies and is considered an expert in the field. Additionally, Roberts works closely with and supports large off-shore, air-medical, corporate and tour/utility helicopter operators.
Roberts earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Florida. He is a FAA-certified single- and twin-engine commercial pilot and FAA-certified rotorcraft instructor.
